family Advocacy

Family advocates assist families through the course of the investigation and afterward by ensuring they have the resources they need to heal and removing any barriers that could prohibit them from doing so. The advocate meets with the parent or non-offending caregiver to explain the forensic interview process and discusses a variety of topics including on-going resource referrals, how to apply for victims’ compensation benefits, and the potential court process.

Medical Assessments

Medical assessments are offered to every child and range in scope depending on the nature of the abuse allegation. The nurse conducts wellness exams, mental health screenings, and developmental screenings to provide children and families an overall health assessment. Additionally, the nurse stresses the importance of body safety and discusses boundaries with every child.

Forensic Interviews

Forensic interviews are a vital component of our programming. At the request of law enforcement or DHS Child Protective Services, a specially trained forensic interviewer conducts a neutral, court defensible interview in a child friendly environment. Through this child-led process, a child is given the opportunity to tell his or her experience to one adult, reducing the possibility of secondary trauma.

Please note, only allegations of abuse that have been reported to law enforcement or OKDHS will be received.
