Dr. Mary Abbott (1931-2004) was a dedicated pediatrician in the Norman community who nurtured and treated thousands of children lucky enough to call her their doctor. Dr. Abbott’s name and reputation were forever linked with child abuse response when she became the first pediatrician in the Norman community willing to administer sexual abuse exams to child victims. She also participated in the first Cleveland County Multidisciplinary Team as its medical representative and helped shape that team into the child-friendly, victim-centered unit it is today.

Dr. Abbott’s memory is alive and well in the Norman community and beyond, and it was her tireless dedication to children’s advocacy that led the board of directors of the Cleveland County Children’s Advocacy Center to adopt her as its namesake and forever be known as the Abbott house Child Advocacy Center. As Abbott House lives its mission, the staff, board, and members of the multidisciplinary team are constantly inspired by Dr. Abbott’s life and work- seeking at all times to honor her memory and emulate her spirit.
