Job Opening: Director of Community Engagement

Mary Abbott Children's House is seeking a Director of Community Engagement. This position is full time. Candidates must have a passion for raising community awareness for child abuse prevention and response. Qualified candidates will have prior experience in fundraising, grant writing, public speaking, and community outreach. You must have a demonstrated ability to work independently as well as on group projects. Relationship building and writing skills are key. Experience working with a donor database is preferred.

Responsibilities of the Director of Community Engagement, in coordination with the Executive Director, include:

1. Directing and/or coordinating operations for all fundraising events and donor relation activities:

  • Coordinating the Basketball Coaches' Lunch annual fundraiser.
  • Coordinating all fundraising letter campaigns.
  • Cultivating and maintaining individual donor relationships in conjunction with the executive director.
  • Developing and managing Abbott House's donor database software.

2. Developing and managing the agency's community engagement strategy:

  • Identifying relevant community speaking engagements and activities to increase visibility of Abbott House.
  • Coordinating all publicity and outreach efforts during Child Abuse Awareness Month.
  • Dividing speaking engagements and activities with the Executive Director, and the Medical Advocate & Outreach Coordinator.
  • Recruiting volunteers for various projects within the organization.
  • Assisting with management of non-program volunteers.

3. Developing and managing the agency's communication strategy:

  • Maintaining content for Abbott House's communication tools (website, social media, etc.) related to the messaging and outreach activities of the agency.
  • Developing and maintaining all collateral materials.
  • Coordinating and/or writing press releases and media alerts.
  • Tracking and maintaining all agency press.
  • Coordinate development of Annual Report.

4. Building community relationships through Abbott House's educational outreach programs:

  • Cultivating relationships with community groups, schools, and other organizations in an effort to increase public awareness of child abuse and neglect and encourage appropriate response (in coordination with Director of Community Response & Training and Medical Advocate & Outreach Coordinator).
  • Coordinating and conducting educational trainings and presentations.
  • Directing community engagement events.

5. Partnering with the executive director to oversee and enact the agency's funding strategy and operational cash flow:

  • Overseeing the Abbott House grant calendar and managing grant compliance.
  • Assisting in grant writing.
  • Partnering with the executive director to identify new grant sources.
  • Assisting with financial internal controls.

6. Assist with staffing of Board of Directors committee meetings:

  • Schedule and attend committee meetings.
  • Execute and follow up on committee tasks.
